Collective inaction

Leaders of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) wrapped up a two-day summit in Indonesia expressing "deep concern" about the escalation of violence in member-state Myanmar. But they insisted on sticking to a five-point consensus Myanmar's military junta agreed to with ASEAN in April 2021 that the summit host, Indonesian President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo, acknowledged has made no progress. Widodo warned that "ASEAN's credibility is at stake" and called for engagement with all parties in Myanmar.
