Chinese government efforts to Sinicize ethnic minorities in Inner Mongolia, Tibet and Xinjiang increasingly means the elimination of classroom instruction in native languages. Under an assimilation campaign that has grown more forceful under President Xi Jinping, minority children have lost the right to be educated in their native language and will be taught to read and write the "common national language" -- Mandarin Chinese.
