유럽연합(EU)은 북한이 15일 신형 잠수함발사탄도미사일(SLBM)을 공개한 것과 관련해 북한에 도발 행위를 멈출 것을 촉구했습니다.
유럽연합의 피터 스타노(Peter Stano) 유럽연합 외교·안보정책 담당 대변인은 15일 자유아시아방송(RFA)에 보낸 전자우편에서 "유럽연합은 한반도 관련 상황 전개를 면밀히 지켜보고 있다"며 "북한은 긴장을 고조시키고 상황을 불안정하게 만들면서 외교적 노력을 약화시킬 수 있는 행동을 반드시 중단해야 한다"고 강조했습니다. (The EU closely follows the developments on the Korean Peninsula. It remains imperative that the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) refrains from any action that could raise tensions, destabilise the situation and undermine diplomatic efforts.)
그는 "북한이 유엔 안전보장이사회의 모든 관련 결의를 완전히 준수하는 한편 핵무기 없는 한반도에서 신뢰와 지속적인 평화 및 안보를 구축하기 위한 외교에 재관여하길 기대한다"고 전했습니다. (We expect the country fully to comply with all relevant UN Security Council Resolutions. We also expect the DPRK to take steps to re-engage in a sustained diplomatic process aimed at building trust and establishing lasting peace and security on the Korean Peninsula, free of nuclear weapons.)
그러면서 "우리는 북핵과 대량 살상 무기, 모든 범위의 탄도 미사일 프로그램의 '완전하고 검증 가능하며 되돌릴 수 없는 폐기'라는 목표를 달성하기 위해 계속 노력하고 있다"고 강조했습니다. (The EU remains committed to achieving the goal of the complete, verifiable and irreversible dismantlement by North Korea of its nuclear and other weapons of mass destruction and its ballistic missile programmes of all ranges.)
유럽연합 측은 또 협력국들과의 협의 하에 향후 북한의 비핵화를 위한 외교적 노력을 지원할 준비가 돼있다고 덧붙였습니다. (The EU stands ready to support, in consultation with partners, future diplomatic efforts aimed at facilitating peaceful denuclearisation and the building of sustainable peace on the Korean peninsula.)
