미국·일본·호주(오스트랄리아)·인도의 안보 연합체 '쿼드(Quad)' 4개국이 12일 첫 정상회의에서 북한의 비핵화에 대한 약속을 재확인했습니다.
미국 백악관은 이날 회의 후 발표한 4개국 공동성명에서 "우리는 유엔안전보장이사회 결의에 따라 북한의 완전한 비핵화에 전념할 것을 재확인한다"고 밝혔습니다. (We reaffirm our commitment to the complete denuclearization of North Korea in accordance with United Nations Security Council resolutions.)
이어 "일본인 납북자 문제의 즉각적인 해결 필요성도 확인한다"고 덧붙였습니다. (...also confirm the necessity of immediate resolution of the issue of Japanese abductees.)
이날 회의에 참석한 조 바이든 미국 대통령, 스가 요시히데 일본 총리, 나렌드라 모디 인도 총리, 스콧 모리슨 호주 총리는 성명에서 "우리는 다양한 관점을 가지고, 자유롭고 개방적인 인도 태평양 지역을 위한 비전을 공유하고 있다"고 말했습니다. (We bring diverse perspectives and are united in a shared vision for the free and open Indo-Pacific. )
성명은 또 "우리는 인도 태평양과 이를 넘어선 지역에 대한 위협에 대응하고, 안보와 번영을 증진하기 위해 국제법과 자유롭고 개방적인 규칙에 기반한 질서를 장려할 것"이라고 강조했습니다. (Together, we commit to promoting a free, open rules-based order, rooted in international law to advance security and prosperity and counter threats to both in the Indo-Pacific and beyond.)
한편 이날 쿼드 4개국은 코로나 19(코로나 비루스)와 기후변화에 대한 공동 대응과 협력에 대해 논의했습니다.
